Help shape the future of English devolution
With the genie out of the bottle when it comes to whether English devolution is taking place or not, it is key that businesses have the opportunity to have a say what next for devolution.
Areas with deals have already benefited from the automatic allocation of government funding (such as half the £1.7bn Transforming Cities Fund) and benefit from having a visible spokesperson to help attract a pipeline of private, public and foreign investment to an area.
With the existing 7 Metro Mayors already calling for more powers to be devolved, and an 8th due to be elected in May, there is a risk that areas without deals, particularly towns and rural area could get left behind when it comes to future funding and on key initiatives such as the Local Industrial Strategies or the future of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The government is currently putting together a framework for future devolution and is looking for the business view on this important piece of work.
The CBI is seeking to understand what’s worked to date, where improvements can be made, and what a future framework might look like to ensure all parts of the country can equally benefit from future funding streams and the devolution of power.

CBI Digital Transformation Project
Would you be willing to participate in a short 45-minute interview and roundtable discussion as part of an exciting new project?
The CBI in partnership with Oracle is launching a new project which will examine the unique challenges and opportunities large companies face when adopting technologies. This work builds on the CBI’s landmark report Ostrich to Magpie, published last year, that highlighted the economic benefits of more businesses adopting readily available technologies and best management practices.
Ideally, the project aims to engage exclusively with those in the c-suite/board level with the interviews helping the CBI to craft a practical tool that highlights best practice on digital transformation in large companies allowing for continued dialogue with Government on the issue of UK productivity. The report will focus on several case studies with a good opportunity to promote any digital initiatives your members have recently undertaken.

The future of Public-Private partnerships – call for case studies
With scrutiny growing on public sector providers, we feel it is a critical time to underline the value these partnerships can bring – not only to service or infrastructure delivery, but also to wider UK economic prosperity. To help with this, we’re looking to gather case studies that demonstrate:
- Best practice in pre-market engagement and procurement practices, that helped shape more effective outcomes or a more diverse competition for public sector contracts.
- Positive examples of where public sector contracts have driven technological innovation or a greater emphasis on overall value, and not just cost.
These examples will form part of an evidence pack that will be shared with the Cabinet Office ahead of the end of the year.
