BMTA NEWSLETTER – WINTER 2022

BMTA Newsletter Winter 2022

Welcome to the Winter issue of the BMTA Newsletter

In this issue, we look at how clamp-on ultrasonic flow metering is helping to tackle the ever-increasing challenge of leakage reduction and interruptions in the UK water supply, in an article from Andy Hammond at Flexim.

Daniel Povey, Manufacturing Metrology group, NPL, discusses the dynamic monitoring of intelligent machining systems. The global focus on digitalisation is one of the many areas in which NPL aims to identify and address measurement challenges.

We have a number of articles from TÜV SÜD. Itoro Udofia, Medical Health Service, explains how medical devices being placed on the market in the UK must now follow the Medical Devices Regulations 2002. Carl Hunt, Product Compliance Assessor, discusses the importance of the technical file in CE or UKCA marking, while Darren Hugheston-Roberts, Head of Machinery Safety clarifies the UKCA requirements after 31 December 2022 and how they affect the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.

TÜV SÜD recently opened its Octagon Hub, a £2.88m state-of-the-art UK EMC and Radio Frequency test facility. Carl Wordsworth, Head of Water Sector, tells us more about the facility.

We also have another anonymously contributed article. ‘Forever Delayed’ is one person’s thoughts on the impact of the UKCA mark delay. While implementing regulatory changes such as UKCA marking is no easy exercise, stopping or delaying changes part way through can be equally challenging.

And, as part of our series on our BMTA Council Members, we meet Bob Faulding, Managing Director, PBS Synergies. Bob tells us why he joined BMTA and why he decided to stand as a Council member.

Enjoy the read.
