The BMTA has joined a group of 15 manufacturers’ trade bodies, including Make UK and the Chemical Industries Association, in penning a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, which was published today in the Financial Times.

We believe the Prime Minister's U-turn on the net-zero emission targets will prove to be a huge setback for the sector. Many businesses have put net-zero targets at the forefront of their priorities and, we believe, will suffer financially as a result of this decision. The letter points out that the decision sent “entirely the wrong signal” and suggests we are “simply going backwards.”

Much like the continually changing position on UKCA implementation, this is another example of how changes to previously announced policies are negatively impacting UK business.
