Jeff is semi-retired but manages to keep himself busy as President of the BMTA. We asked him to tell us a little about himself.
With the end of freedom of movement, the UK and the European Union have negotiated and agreed a new Trade & Cooperation Agreement (TCA). There are now significant and immediate changes for businesses trading with the EU and Northern Ireland and new arrangements for UK business visitors to travel to the EU on work-related matters.
The 20th International Metrology Congress will be held 7-9 September in Lyon (France), in partnership with the Measurement World exhibition. The Congress coincides with the same dates and location as Global Industrie exhibition.
The ILAC, IAF and ISO are running a joint survey. The aim is to better understand the views of the conformity assessment community and those that rely on the results of conformity assessment, such as regulators, on the use of remote techniques for audit/assessment/evaluation activities.
Last Thursday the CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies have overwhelmingly agreed to revise the membership arrangements in their statutes, reflecting the UK’s departure from the EU. The agreement comes after careful consideration by the CEN and CENELEC members of the impacts of the UK’s exit from the EU on the European standardization system and on the organisations’ membership statutes.
BMTA welcomes the National Audit Office Report ‘Protecting consumers from unsafe products’ published on 16 June. It examines the effectiveness of the Office of Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) which was established in 2018 in its first 3 years of operation. BMTA gave evidence to the NAO in its enquiry leading to the Report.
Employers will be able to claim £1000 for every T Level student they host on a high-quality industry placement, as part of a new incentive scheme.
