ABB opens new UK analytical training facility

Global tech and automation company ABB has launched a new analytical training facility called the Skills Hub at its service training centre in Stonehouse, UK.

This state-of-the-art facility aims to provide engineers with a realistic training environment to develop their expertise in water quality measurement technologies for industrial, power, and water utility applications.

The Skills Hub is designed to mirror the solutions ABB provides to its customers, featuring a fully functioning system divided into two main sections:

  1. Power industry focus: This section showcases ABB’s full range of analyzers for key parameters within the power industry.
  2. Water and wastewater treatment focus: This area displays the portfolio of water quality measurement analyzers for the water and wastewater treatment industry.

Both sections use an adaptable panel design that can be reconfigured to suit different training requirements, allowing engineers to practise commissioning, operating and servicing ABB products used in typical analytical measurement applications.

Dr Jonathan Farrington, technical manager for ABB Measurement & Analytics’ service business, said, “Accurate water quality measurement is key for both the safety of potable water and the effective treatment of water for industrial and power utility processes to boost efficiency and minimise pollution.”

The Skills Hub enables engineers to develop their skills in a realistic environment, ensuring they can effectively handle ABB’s continuous water analysis solutions used in power generation and water treatment applications worldwide.

The training facility covers a wide range of parameters, including:

  • pH/ORP
  • Conductivity
  • Dissolved oxygen
  • Turbidity
  • Silica
  • Sodium
  • Chlorine

The adaptable design allows for more parameters to be added or swapped out as needed, providing flexibility in training scenarios.
