Intertek launches blockchain traceability solution in fight against honey fraud

Intertek has launched HoneyTrace, an innovative blockchain-based traceability solution designed to ensure transparency and authenticity across the honey supply chain.

Honey adulteration is a significant global issue, with an estimated 14% of honey sold worldwide being counterfeit or adulterated, according to the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. This fraudulent activity not only undermines consumer trust but also poses challenges for legitimate producers and regulatory bodies.

Intertek’s HoneyTrace platform uses blockchain technology to provide a secure and transparent method for tracing honey from hive to jar. This solution enables tracking of each honey batch throughout the supply chain, the the secure storage of crucial information, including laboratory test results and beekeeper identities and helps producers meet new EU regulations requiring specific origin information on honey packaging.

Intertek offers a comprehensive range of services, including authenticity testing, contaminant analysis, and origin verification. These services are crucial for maintaining the integrity of honey products and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
